Company Profile

Brief History of the Company
The business dates back to 1978 when it began as a consultancy advising sportscentres on matters of safety relating to physical education equipment. Detailed reports recommending reparation works resulted in a maintenance division being formed to carry out these works when clients were unable to find acceptable alternative contractors.

Equipment found to be beyond economical repair was placed out of action, and the Company was asked to supply replacements. This was carried out using a variety of suppliers until, as a result of experiencing difficulty in sourcing equipment of a suitable quality, a manufacturing facility was created at Guide Bridge Mill in 1988.

The factory produced equipment of a quality such that GYM-TECH now manufactures fixed and portable sports hall and gymnasium equipment for many of the major UK trade suppliers as well as the Company's own clients.

Our Goals
The Company is committed to providing the best quality equipment for it's intended purpose, and to maintain all equipment in good condition to ensure maximum safetyfor the users. Our Product Guide is sufficiently comprehensive to be used as a reference point by many clients for whom we continually strive to improve our products and services. We have no 'mission statement' to announce, but we do have our track record to show.

Maintenance
GYM-TECH provides repair and maintenance services both on long-term and one-off contracts for a large number of local authority and private schools and sport centres. We hold stocks of original spares for most items of equipment and for most other manufacturers products. A loan stock allows us to provide equipment to reduce disruption to teaching programmes and commercially operated courses.

The Company's service engineers have many years experience installing and maintaining equipment to the highest standards - all works being carried out in accordance with our procedures manual. All personnel wear company clothing and identity badges to ensure easy recognition at client's premises.

Manufacturing
Our factory in Manchester has production departments specialising in steel fabrication, precision engineering, timber work, upholstery, sewing, adhesive bonding and general assembly. We manufacture Games Posts, Goals, Gym Mats, Trampolines, Dividing Curtains, Floor Anchors, Safety Mattresses, traditional timber Wall Bars and Springboards, Rebound Boards, Cricket Nets, and radio-controlled electrically operated Basketball Goals.

We boast the Widest Range of Trampolines and Associated Equipment in the World; we are the longest established manufacturer of Trampolines in the UK; we have designed and developed the hugely successful range of SportSafeTM Games Posts and Goals; we make the most popular school Gymnasium Mat in the UK - simply known nationwide as the Gym Mat - and are currently developing our sophisticated range of Eclipse Gymnastic Equipment to complement the very popular GYM-TIME Eduational Gymnastic Equipment.

Much of our equipment is manufactured to the exacting standards of original Nissen equipment except where we have pioneered improvements in designs. High stock levels are kept of both raw materials and finished products in order to fulfill urgent customer orders with maximum efficiency.

Flooring
In late 1999 we acquired specialist flooring staff previously employed by En-tout-cas plc. Their expertise and depth of knowledge enables us to provide timber, carpet, cushioned vinyl and polyurethane sports surfaces of the very highest quality. We are now the only UK manufacturer able to offer the full range of both flooring and equipment with which to fit out or refurbish sports halls and gymnasia.
Administration
Our administration procedures are constantly being appraised and up-dated, and we make full use of modern electronic systems for information handling. Office staff training includes 'shadowing' other members of the team so that in cases of illness no duties are neglected through lack of knowledge. We regard politeness and efficiency in administrative activities as equal in importance to the quality and care required of our manufacturing and maintenance staff.

Health and Safety
The Company has confidential detailed manuals for all manufacturing, maintenance, repair and installation functions. These include on-site and factory procedures to ensure that safe working methods are followed, and to maintain the health and safety of all operatives and clients. Specific operations are subjected to Risk Assessments, and procedures are amended where appropriate. There have been no notifiable accidents nor any Health and Safety Executive enforcements since the Company was formed.

Procedures are monitored and enforced by regular inspections during works by the Operations Manager who is directly responsible to the Managing Director for all Health and Safety matters. Monthly training meetings are held togther with routine job training sessions in order to improve procedures and operations, to increase product knowledge, to monitor employee progress and to promote awareness of all health and safety requirements.

Quality
The Company provides a detailed confidential manual and standard forms for all inspection, maintenance, repair and installation functions including on-site procedures to ensure consistent quality and provide a clear record of all items serviced, their original condition, and work carried out. All staff are fully trained to carry out gymnasium maintenance competently and efficiently, and are certificated for each work area.

Work schedules for every aspect of the business ensure that all works are carried out to similar standards, and consistent quality is maintained. Materials and parts used in both maintenance and manufacturing meet or exceed British Standards where applicable, and are traceable back to primary sources in accordance with all Quality Assurance requirements. Replacement parts are made to original specification except where these have been improved.

Financial Resources
GYM-TECH is in a robust financial position with all plant and machinery wholly owned by the Company. We hold approximately £40,000 worth of raw materials in stock, with a warehouse of finished products valued at between £20,000 and £50,000 according to customer demand.

Staff
Our policy is to employ only the best at every level, from whom we expect - and receive - loyalty and commitment. We do not lay employees off when orders slow down - instead we offer additional hours when orders are high. This results in a workforce which is confident in having secure employment, and which has a skill-level and expertise undiluted by less skilled casual workers. We operate a strict non-smoking policy on both our own and customers premises.

Staff training in both specific job skills and in general education is very important to us, and we have close links with educational establishments in the area. We consider ourselves to be, in the very truest sense, Investors in People.

Visitors
We strongly recommend that all Physical Education staff and Sports Hall Managers visit GYM-TECH in order to see at first hand the range and quality of equipment available.
